Ryunosuke Okazaki

Ryunosuke Okazaki was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, in 1995, and graduated from the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Design Department, at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2021. In 2022, he was a finalist for the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. In 2023, he was selected for the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list. In 2024, he participated in the "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He breaks the boundaries between fashion and art, continually exploring the fusion and innovation of artistic expression. He grew up in the natural surroundings of the coastal area of Hiroshima, Japan. From a young age, he was inspired by the history and natural environment of his hometown, leading him to deeply contemplate the concept of "peace." For him, the theme of "PRAY" as a wish for peace has become an important element of his artistic expression. In Japan, there has been a long-standing tradition of praying to nature, an act that closely intertwines people's lives with the natural world.In his exploration of the theme of "PRAY" he has become increasingly interested in the profound significance of the relationship between people and prayer. The Shinto spirit of seeking divinity in nature and offering prayers, as well as the unconscious embedding of "prayer" in the daily lives of Japanese people, has a long history. As humans, we are part of nature, and praying to nature represents a universal resonance with precious life and the expression of the bond between people and nature. This tradition of "PRAY" has given rise to various forms, continuously inspiring his creativity. He believes that what is contained in prayer can deeply move people's hearts, stimulate their imagination, and possess the power to touch emotions.
