About this ranking
Male modelling rarely draws the headlines the women's side does, but a small group of men have built careers substantial enough to anchor luxury campaigns, open runway shows and become recognisable well beyond fashion. The ranking above orders today's working names by verified Instagram audience; this is the longer view of how the field was built, because follower counts say nothing about who opened the door.
The pioneers made a male model a name in his own right. Marcus Schenkenberg, usually described as the first true male supermodel, broke through with Calvin Klein and went on to Versace and Armani. Mark Vanderloo turned a Calvin Klein campaign into a long run as the face of Hugo Boss, with Valentino, Gucci and Guess alongside it. Tyson Beckford became the face of Ralph Lauren's Polo Sport and, as a prominent Black model in an industry that then lacked diversity, a public figure well past the campaigns themselves.
The classic faces made that career repeatable. David Gandy revived the idea of the classically masculine male figure and became inseparable from Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue imagery. Sean O'Pry, discovered as a teenager, assembled one of the most consistent bodies of work in the business across Calvin Klein, Versace and Givenchy. Andrés Velencoso built a fragrance and luxury career through Chanel and Louis Vuitton, with Zegna, Trussardi and Loewe behind it. Around them sit the campaign regulars brands keep returning to: Jon Kortajarena (Guess, Tom Ford, Lacoste), Arthur Kulkov (Dolce & Gabbana, Gap, Lacoste, with Gucci and Armani runways), Simon Nessman (Armani, Versace, Calvin Klein, Givenchy), Baptiste Giabiconi (the Lagerfeld-era Chanel shows, plus Fendi), Garrett Neff (a Calvin Klein exclusive, the signal that usually marks a long career) and Clément Chabernaud.
The modern generation arrived with an audience already attached, which is why it dominates the ranking above. Lucky Blue Smith moved between Tom Ford, Versace, H&M and Tommy Hilfiger while building a following of his own; Alton Mason brought an expressive, barrier-breaking presence to the runway. That shift — from being cast to arriving with reach — is exactly what the Influence Score measures, and it is why a list of male models today looks nothing like one from 2005.
