The models who defined fashion — full biographies, career milestones and the facts behind the fame.
These are the icons: supermodels whose careers shaped the fashion industry, from the original 90s supers to today's most influential faces. Each profile is a full biography — how she was discovered, the campaigns and runway moments that made her famous, earnings and net worth, and where she is now. Looking for a model you can book? The generation that turned modelling into a household name: Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer were the couture runway and the magazine cover of the late 80s and 90s. Kate Moss arrived at the end of that run and broke its template — 5'7" and waifish in a decade built on statuesque glamour. All five are still working, three decades on.

Two careers ran in parallel through these two decades: the Victoria's Secret roster, which made a handful of models globally famous outside fashion, and the high-fashion runway generation — Natalia Vodianova, Natasha Poly, Sasha Pivovarova, Liu Wen — who carried the couture shows and the beauty contracts. Cards marked VS Angel show the documented contract years.

VS Angel 2015–2016The names casting directors and search traffic ask for now. Second-generation models (Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber), Vittoria Ceretti's couture run, and a wave that changed what the word supermodel describes: Alex Consani took Model of the Year at the 2024 Fashion Awards, Anok Yai opened Prada, Paloma Elsesser and Ashley Graham made size a non-issue on major covers.

It depends on what you measure. The original supermodels — Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer and Kate Moss — defined the word and still work today. By live global reach, the modern names lead: we rank every model in this gallery by how many people read about her worldwide. Famous models of all time, ranked →
The core group was Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer and Tatjana Patitz — the six who appeared together on the January 1990 British Vogue cover and in the Freedom! '90 video. Kate Moss broke through in 1990 with a different look entirely and became the face of the decade that followed.
Angels were the models under an exclusive Victoria's Secret contract — a title the brand retired in 2021. Adriana Lima held it longest, from 2000 to 2018; Gisele Bündchen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes, Taylor Hill and Barbara Palvin all wore the wings. Walking the show was not the same as being an Angel. Victoria's Secret models ranked by tenure →
A top-tier campaign and contract package puts the highest earners in the tens of millions a year, while a working runway model at the same shows may earn a few thousand per season. Gisele Bündchen held the highest-paid spot for over a decade. Each profile in this gallery carries the documented earnings and net-worth figures we could verify. Highest-paid models →
