Awuoi Mach Guguei is a South Sudanese model whose journey into fashion began in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya. Orphaned alongside her three younger siblings, she fled war as a teenager after losing her mother and never knowing her father. In 2019, she made history as the first model ever scouted directly from the camp — at a time when those around her believed it was impossible. Inspired by refugee models who began their careers abroad, Awuoi believed it could happen from within. Awuoi’s breakthrough opened doors for others like her to pursue modelling careers internationally.
She has since walked runways, appeared in editorials, and worked on campaigns across Europe, the UK, and the U.S. Now based in the UK with her siblings, Awuoi uses her platform to advocate for the empowerment of women and girls.
