No fees to sign
A real agency is paid a commission on the work it books. Registration fees, compulsory paid courses and a mandatory in-house photographer are the standard warning signs.
Look at the board, not the promise
Open the agency's own site and see who it actually represents and which clients those models shoot for. A board full of recent work is worth more than any pitch.
Match the market
High fashion, commercial, curve and talent boards want different things. A mother agency in your city that places you abroad often beats a distant big name.

Age, proportions, healthy skin and hair, and the ability to take direction matter everywhere — check each London agency's own requirements page before you submit, since the divisions differ.
- Do modeling agencies in London charge a fee?
- A legitimate agency does not charge to represent you: it earns a commission on the work it books for you, typically around 20%. Paying up front for "registration", a mandatory portfolio with an agency-appointed photographer or a "course" is the classic sign of a scam — in London as anywhere else. Costs that are genuinely normal (test shoots you commission yourself, travel, a printed book) are your own and never a condition of being signed.
